OVERVIEW

The 1st International Conference on Advances in Water Resources, organized by the Department of Civil Engineering and the Centre of Excellence in Water Management at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal, India, in association with Central Water Commission, Ministry of Jal Shakthi, Govt. of India, focused on the theme of “Transforming Water Resources Engineering for a Sustainable Future”.

These advancements are vital for promoting sustainable development, as they prioritize optimizing water management systems to minimize environmental impact. By integrating innovative technologies and methodologies—such as smart water systems and advanced modeling techniques —engineers can enhance water conservation, improve quality, and ensure equitable distribution. This approach not only supports the sustainable use of water resources but also strengthens ecosystem resilience, climate adaptability, and overall community well-being. Ultimately, these innovations pave the way for a more sustainable future, harmonizing human needs with environmental stewardship.

The three-day conference will bring together experts from academia and industry to discuss current innovations and urgent needs of the hour. It will be an excellent platform for sharing ideas and exploring potential collaborations to develop sustainable water management practices. MANIT Bhopal warmly invites you to join this event and engage with the future aspirations of water resource experts from India and around the world.

The Department of Civil Engineering is one of the oldest departments of the Institute, started in 1960. It offers B.Tech. (Civil Engineering) degrees 7 M.Tech. degrees, and Ph.D. programs. The Centre of Excellence in Water Management opened quite recently and offers 1 M.Tech. program and Ph.D. programs. The department has 35 faculty, and the centre has 3 newly appointed faculty with 7 associated faculty from civil engineering who are highly qualified and dedicated and strive to produce competent professionals who are abreast with the latest technology and are equipped with enterprising skills necessary for a designer and also for a site engineer. The centre is providing quality education and research focussed to water resources engineering & management, iSnce 2021, the centre offers Post Graduate program on “Water Resporces Engineering and Management” to facilitate the culture pf developing unique ideas in water resource management

Both the Department and Centre of Excellence in Water Management include multiple laboratories for Hydraulics, Hydrology, and Climate Study. These laboratories are equipped with advanced instruments for modern methods of experimentation and visualization.

OUR ORGANISATION

Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) Bhopal, formerly known as Maulana Azad College of Technology (MACT) Bhopal was established in the year 1960 and subsequently upgraded to National Institute of Technology (NIT) in 2002. The Civil Engineering Department is one of the oldest departments of the institute established in 1962. The initial journey was started with UG program in Civil Engineering followed by M.Tech. programs in seven specializations. The department also offers Ph.D. programs in different frontier areas of research. The department is equipped with state of art laboratory facilities and is involved in providing testing, designing in consultancy and research services various areas in civil engineering. The Centre of Excellence in Water Management is established as an allied Centre to the department in the year 2021. The centre offers M.Tech. in Water Resources Engineering and Ph.D. in allied areas. The institute is located in the heart of Bhopal City (the capital of Madhya Pradesh). Bhopal is well known worldwide as the city of lakes. It is well connected to various parts of the country by road, rail and air. The Institute is located at a distance of about 8 km from Bhopal railway station and 20 km from Raja Bhoj Airport.
